This term our topic is:
Materials Matter - What Would Traction Man Use To Build Our School?
In Year 2 this half-term, we will be exploring a science focussed topic based on the question 'Materials Matter - What Would Traction Man Use To Build Our School?'
We will be reading story 'Traction Man is Here' by Mini Grey as part of our English, alongside writing our own set of instructions and all about Traction Man's Next Adventure!
The values of the month for November and December are tolerance and respect and we will be having dedicated assemblies on this value.

Reading
Reading is an essential part of your child's learning. Your child will be sent home with a colour banded book to match their ability. They will have a guided reading session every week, which will include shared reading, and accompanying tasks. Please take time to look at and read your child's reading books and any other books, with them. When you have read with your child please record this in their reading record. If a child reads 3 or more times at home each week, they will be entered into our 'In It, To Win It' draw to be in with a chance of choosing a golden envelope to win a prize!
The children continue to have access to Bug Club online, where reading books will be allocated to each child. When they access the books there will be short tasks which they need to complete in order to win points. The more points they win the more time they get to spend it in the shop.
P.E.
P.E. will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child comes to school on this day in their P.E. kit. They will stay in their P.E. kit all day and where possible, P.E. will take place outside so please make sure children are dressed to keep warm. Please also remember that children need to have their hair up in a pony-tail and to remove earrings and other jewellery for P.E. If your child has newly pierced ears please pop in to the office to fill in the appropriate form.
Homework
Could we ask that you help your child practise their spellings, which will be checked weekly. We expect your child to begin to use these words in their writing. Spellings can be practised in different ways such as writing them out using paint, or in sand or practising them with magnetic letters or making a game up with them. You can also look out for them when reading and when you’re out and about!
Times Tables
Please can you encourage your child to learn their times tables and their inverses at home. They have all received a log in for Times Tables Rock Stars and you will find this in their Reading Records.
