This term our topic is:
What Do We Know About The Victorians And The Way They Lived?
Our first topic in Year 2 this year is all about Victorians. We will be reading the book ‘Major Glad, Major Dizzy’, learning about Queen Victoria and about what life looked like in Victorian times compared to today. We plan to host our own Victorian Day in school to give us the opportunity to dress up and become Victorians for the day (more information coming soon!)
We hope that your child enjoys being in our Year 2 class!

Reading is an essential part of your child's learning. Your child will be sent home with a colour banded book to match their ability. They will have a guided reading session every week, which will include shared reading, and accompanying tasks. Please take time to look at and read your child's reading books and any other books, with them. When you have read with your child please record this in their reading record. If a child reads 3 or more times at home each week, they will be entered into our 'In It, To Win It' draw to be in with a chance of choosing a golden envelope to win a prize!
The children continue to have access to The Bug Club online, where reading books will be allocated to each child. When they access the books there will be short tasks which they need to complete in order to win points. The more points they win the more time they get to spend it in the shop.
P.E. will take place on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child comes to school on this day in their P.E. kit. They will stay in their P.E. kit all day. Please also remember that children need to have their hair up in a pony-tail and to remove earrings and other jewellery for P.E. If your child has newly pierced ears please pop in to the office to fill in the appropriate form.
Could we ask that you help your child practise their spellings, which will be checked weekly. We then expect your child to begin to use these words in their writing. Spellings can be practised in different ways such as writing them out using paint, or in sand or practising them with magnetic letters or making a game up with them. You can also look out for them when reading and when you’re out and about!
