This term our topic is:
This half term, we’ll follow a route around our local streets and take pictures of the buildings, businesses and plants we can see. We’ll learn nursery rhymes, write poetry and create persuasive adverts. Looking at photographs will help us to spot any similarities and differences between the houses and shops of today and the past. We’ll also study and draw maps, create a model of a local building and draw portraits of the people who help us in our community.
We will also be learning all about World War 1 in remembrance 100 years after it ended.
During this half term, our RE topic is ‘Believing’. We will be learning about Judaism and how Jews believe and learn about God within their religion.
We hope that your child had a lovely rest over the summer and is ready to get into the swing of being in Year 2!
Please see our newsletter at the bottom of our page to keep up to date with Y2C.
Reading is an essential part of your child's learning. Your child will be sent home with a colour banded book to match their ability. They will have a guided reading session every week, which will include shared reading, and accompanying tasks. Please take time to look at and read your child's reading books and any other books, with them. When you have read with your child please record this in their reading record. Each time your child reads they will get a stamp on their reading record chart.
The children continue to have access to The Bug Club online, where reading books will be allocated to each child. When they access the books there will be short tasks which they need to complete in order to win points. The more points they win the more time they get to spend it in the shop.
P.E. will take place on Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school at all times. Please also remember that children need to have their hair up in a pony-tail and to remove earrings and other jewellery for P.E. If your child has newly pierced ears please pop in to the office to fill in the appropriate form.
Barnaby Bear loves to visit each child in year 2 over the school year. He will come home on a Friday and will return the following Friday for the whole class to read about his adventures. He has had lots of exciting times in his life and is looking forward to meeting you all soon!
Could we ask that you help your child practise their spellings, which will be checked weekly. We then expect your child to begin to use these words in their writing. Spellings can be practised in different ways such as writing them out using paint, or in sand or practising them with magnetic letters or making a game up with them. You can also look out for them when reading and when you’re out and about!
Each half term the children will have a list of topic based home learning that will link to their Cornerstones topic. We ask that each child completes at least 1 piece of homework. The children will need to bring their homework in during the half term and showcase this with their classmates.
